Man’s body found in the Hudson River

Manhattan - A young man’s body was found floating in the Hudson River Tuesday afternoon, just hours after witnesses reported that a young Asian man abandoned a bicycle on the New Jersey side of the George Washington Bridge, sources said.

Investigators believe the corpse that washed up may be the same person who vanished around 11 a.m. The NYPD’s Harbor and Aviation units searched for the missing person but came up empty-handed.

Around 1:20 p.m., witnesses reported what they believed was a drowning in the Hudson River, off of West 42nd Street, in Hell’s Kitchen, authorities said.

The FDNY and NYPD responded, pulling the fully-clothed body to shore at Pier 81. The victim, who is from New Jersey and had identification with him, was pronounced dead at the scene, sources said.

“We think it’s probably the same guy,” one police source said.

The is believed to be 20 years old but police have not released his name because his family has not been notified.

There were no obvious signs of trauma and police are waiting for the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine a cause of death.
