Cyclist left critically injured after being struck by garbage truck in Brooklyn

A man on a bicycle was critically injured after he was smashed by a garbage truck in Brooklyn late Thursday, police said.

The victim, who is in his 40s, was heading south on Albany Ave. near Lefferts Ave. in Crown Heights just before 11:30 p.m., authorities said, when he was hit by a commercial green garbage truck as it headed west.

He was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he's in critical condition, officials said.

The driver of the truck stayed at the scene.

Cops were walking on Albany Ave. with flashlights as they sought surveillance footage early Friday.

It was not immediately clear if the victim was wearing a helmet, according to police.
