Massive Fire Kills Firefighter And Civilian In Spring Valley

 

Spring Valley, NY. A massive fire that destroyed a assisted living facility killed a firefighter and a civilian resident early Tuesday morning.


Calls to 911 came in around 1:30am for smoke in the Evergreen Court Home at 65 Lafayette Street in Spring Valley, NY, police officers encountered heavy smoke and started to evacuate the elderly residents, the fire quickly spread and engulfed the entire structure, mutual aid from all 26 fire houses in Rockland County came to assist the multi alarm fire that wasn't brought under control for close to 24 hours after the fire started.


Multiple mayday's were transmitted during the first 2 hours of the out of control fire due to numerous collapses within the building including the one from FF Jared Lloyd who had 15 years on the job, Lloyd went missing after his mayday and couldn't be located though the efforts from his fellow firefighters, Lloyd's body found nearly 24 hours after the fire started in the rubble after tirelessly efforts from fire crews.


One resident was pronounced dead at the hospital from injuries sustained from the fire, about 13 other residents were injured in the fire including one critical and a few firefighters also went to the hospital.


Hatzolah EMS and Rockland Chaveirim were on the scene within minutes and helped rescue multiple victims including bringing school buses to help transport the elderly residents that fled the fire.
