Fire in Controversial Homeless Shelter Sparked by Cigarette

Upper West Side - A fire at a controversial West 95th Street homeless shelter that sent dozens of firefighters racing to the scene was sparked by a cigarette, officials said.
The blaze broke out in a mattress on the fourth floor of 316 W. 95th St., between West End Avenue and Riverside Drive (FDNY box 1240), just before 11 a.m. and was quickly doused by buidling's sprinkler system, the FDNY said.

Woman On Scooter Killed By TT On Sixth Ave
A 58-year-old woman on a small metal scooter was struck and killed by a tractor trailer on Sixth Avenue that dragged her under its wheels for two blocks Monday morning, officials said.
The woman was riding her scooter westbound across Sixth Avenue at West Houston Street when the massive vehicle made a right turn from Houston onto Sixth Avenue and plowed into her just before 9 a.m., the NYPD said.
The woman was caught in one of the rear tires of the massive truck and dragged for about two blocks.

Overturned Vehicle Caused Major Traffic On The NYS Thruway
Nanuet - The South Spring Valley and Tallman fire departments were dispatched Thursday to the scene of an accident on the NY State Thruway north bound right next to the Spring Valley Toll Barrier (btw Exit 13 & 14), with a report of a victim entrapped.
Upon arrival - along with the NY State Police - they found one vehicle that was overturned and another that was badly damaged on the over side of the roadway.

New York City residents, attending school, between the ages of 10 and 16 are eligible to attend. The Youth Police Academy will provide those participating in the program with lunch and uniform shirts.
The Youth Police Academy is a six (6) week program that will hold sessions five (5) days a week. The Academy will open at 8:30 am in the morning and dismissal will be 2:00 pm in the afternoon.

Home Invasion By 3 Masked, Armed Men In Ramapo
Chestnut Ridge - On Wednesday Morning, August 22nd, 2012 at approximately 1:43 AM, the Town of Ramapo Police Department received a 911 call from a resident of 51 Sutin Place, in the Village of Chestnut Ridge. The caller stated that three (3) males wearing mask, and one brandishing a handgun forced their way into her residence, through the back door, stating they were police, and when they got into the house they forced their way into two bedrooms and forcibly restrained both the caller a 33 year old female, and her mother a 63 year old female.

Wawarsing - A couple walking in Minnewska State Park in Ulster County were lost, Tuesday night, and rescue personnel were called to find them.
Catskills Hatzolah arrived at the park around 9:00PM, and established a command post – along with the Ulster County Sheriff Department, and DEC Police, arranged by UC Sheriff Chaplain Rabbi Joel Gold.

Three Alarm Fire Injures 17 FFs In Queens
Seventeen firefighters and two tenants were hospitalized after a three-alarm blaze broke out at a Queens building Monday, officials said.
The fast-moving fire erupted about 2:55 a.m. in the three-story building on 45th Ave. in Flushing and was brought under control just before 6 a.m., Fire Department officials said. The building has a coin laundry and other businesses on the ground floor and apartments above.

One FF Injured At Structure Fire In Haverstraw [VIDEO]
One firefighter suffered a laceration to the hand while battling a fire that destroyed a two-story home at 78 Sharp St. this afternoon. The firefighter, whose identity was not available, was taken to Nyack Hospital.
The fire was brouhgt under control in less then an hour. No other injuries were reported.

Monticello - Catskills Hatzolah requested a Medevac for a patient in an unknown type of serious condition on Thursday night.

VIDEO: Man Runs Over NYPD Officers Foot
Manhattan/SoHo - A situation were a driver drove over an NYPD officers foot - as he was writing him a parking ticket - was cought on camera.
In the video taken by YouTube user Damrys7 you can see the driver of the Ferrari 458 Spider getting into the car while the officer is writing the ticket. A he started to move the vehicle, the officer tells him to stop, but the driver resisted.
FDNY EMS Members Save Three People in Submerged Car
Queens - FDNY EMTs Marilyn Arroyo and Jimmy Guailacela from Station 46 risked their lives to save three elderly people trapped in a submerged vehicle on Cooper Avenue on Aug. 15.
A call was received at around 1:30 p.m. for people trapped in a car beneath an overpass.
When EMTs arrived, they said they saw three people – an elderly man and two elderly women – who could not exit the vehicle. The car was three-quarters full of rainwater and was continuing to fill with water flowing in like a river from the heavy rain.

Monsey - A heavy rain and storm that swept through Rockland County on Wednesday afternoon caused a lot of damage to vehicles, houses and roads, including this car accident that occurred on route 59 near Monsey Hights road.
Hatzolah EMS transported two patients to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Brooklyn - A team of FDNY members swept a stickball competition versus an NYPD team on Aug. 14 outside FDNY Headquarters in Brooklyn.

Child Drowned In Chalet Hotel Choppered In Serious Condition [VIDEO]
Woodbourne - Hatzolah rushed to the Chalet hotel in Woodborune for An 8 year old boy that drowned in pool.
The 8 year old child who was apparently drowning, was pulled from the pool and Catskill Hatzolah members who immediately arrived to the scene reported that he was unconscious and that he had gone into cardiac arrest R’l.

Child Struck In Monsey Transported In Serious Condition
Monsey - At approximately 4:45PM, Thursday afternoon, the Ramapo Police Department responded to the area of Roberts Road in the Town Of Ramapo for a report of a child struck by a motor vehicle.
After investigation by responding officers it was determined that a five year old male child had run out from between parked vehicles in front of his residence on Roberts Road and was struck by a passing vehicle.
9 Injured After Serious MVA On The Route 17
Wurstboro - A vehicle returning to Camp Ruach Chaim in the Catskills from the Siyum HaShas at MetLife Stadium, was involved in a serious crash, early Thursday morning.
Sources tell CatskillScoop that a total of 9 people were inside the mini-van which was travelling on Route 17 near Exit 114, when it collided with a tractor-trailer.

VIDEO: Car Pushed Into Crosswalk By Accident Receives Summons
Brooklyn - A motorist traveling south bound on Nostrand Ave and Ave V hit two parked cars forcing one of them to end up in the cross walk.
A responding officer to the accident ticketed the car for being “parked in a crosswalk.”
